Rights and duties of patients

The Ministry of Health requires that public and private health service providers recognize the rights of patients while they are using the services they provide. Similarly, patients are expected to comply with certain obligations or duties to their health service provider.

In compliance with this requirement, we present a summary of the provisions on the rights and duties of patients contemplated in the "General Law  of health".

RIGHTS OF PATIENTS

 

  • The patient has the right to be fully and continuously informed and to receive counseling by trained personnel before and after the examinations and procedures established in the protocols and regulations.

  • The patient has the right to confidentiality and secrecy of all information, his file and his stay in public or private health institutions, except for legal exceptions.

  • The patient has the right to be treated with respect, human dignity and privacy.

  • The patient has the right to  to be given a result.

  • The patient has the right to make claims and make suggestions within the terms provided in this Law and its regulations.

  • The patient has the right to demand that the services provided for their health care meet the quality standards accepted in institutional procedures and practices.  and professionals.

  • The patient or his representative as the case may be, has the right to examine and receive all the explanations that allow him a comprehensive understanding of the bill.

DUTIES OF PATIENTS

 

  • The patient must seek comprehensive health care.

  • The patient must ensure the promotion, prevention, care, protection and rehabilitation of their health and that of their family members.

  • The patient must provide the requested information in a timely manner.

  • The patient must maintain order and discipline in the corresponding institutions that provide health services, public and private, taking care of the good condition and conservation of the facilities and equipment.

  • The patient must show due respect to the  health personnel.

  • The patient or his representative, as the case may be, has the duty to examine and request all the explanations that allow a comprehensive understanding of the bill.

  • Other obligations established by other international laws and regulations approved by the Republic of Nicaragua.
